A Strong mix for beating the heat. The influencer and tastemaker behind Innovative Leisure Records, Jamie Strong came by his current prominence via stints at Ubiquity Records and Stones Throw, and parties like The Do Over and Pause.
Recorded in 2003 with Frosty, this early session in his career finds Strong while still at Ubiquity, prior to his time at Stones Throw and The Do Over. At first, his selections embark listeners on a retro/spiritual jazz-funk journey, but are followed by diverse instances of instrumental hip-hop, broken beat, neo-soul and reggae — all sonic indications of what he was about to do next.
